Have you ever been stopped by a policeman on the road and have been asked for identity proof?? And the reason he suspects you is because you have got a goatee on your chin?? well i have had this experience...
This happened on the 14Th of august when i had been to B'lore city to buy lenses for my camera. Me and my friend are walking on the footpath where a fat policeman is simply standing staring at people. 2 metres at least after we walk past him, he calls us and starts firing questions which were pretty decent to be asked, but then he comments on our goatees a couple of times which was the reason for him to stop us. I found out from my friend that the police were "STRICT" because of the terrorist threats that could hit the city from anywhere.
The fact that he stopped me for having a goatee was seriously lame and ridiculous. How can you suspect someone for having a little more of facial hair??. How sure are they that the terrorists have more facial hair than the other people?? It is sad to see that the Security forces are generalising suspects in such a way too. No wonder terrorism is easily spread.
For some people it might seem a very funny incident, but i think its not, because terrorist have brains too.. they know how to terrify people.. they are just smart people with no future. i don't understand why the police don't get that anyone can be a terrorist.. even a clean shaved man or it can be a woman too. Honestly i don't feel safe in India unless they make some serious smart moves instead of generalising people on their looks. And there are a lot of other issues which i would like to post. but for now i think of concluding this post, security is protecting not provoking.. people can get offended because India is country with billion cultures.!!
Think about it!! and be true to yourself.. its not only the police but everyone in this country think the same way just like the policeman..its high time we change our thinking because all of us suspects to each other..
\PEACE/
You are one among the many who face such an absurd inquiry. Not to dilute the seriousness of your experience by saying, it is just another drop but to point out at the magnitude of it by saying that there is an ocean...
ReplyDeleteBeard/ goatee is just one aspect of the identity which is being targeted. We are all standing at a point of history where if Shakespeare were to live, would have surely given a second thought to the statement which he speaks through Juliet: "What is there in a name?"
